Introduction
Training is essential to every employer’s safety and health program for protecting workers from injuries and illnesses, including laboratories.
The laboratory environment can be a hazardous place to work. Laboratory workers are exposed to numerous potential hazards, including chemical, biological, physical and radioactive hazards and musculoskeletal stresses. Because of this, it is essential to take proper precautions, implement safety guidelines, and ensure you are safe while working in the laboratory.
This five-day safety training course focuses on the fundamentals of laboratory safety and will help ensure workers’ safety in the laboratory.

- Laboratory Safety Legislation – OSHA, HSE
- The hazards of laboratories;
- Physical hazards.
- Chemical hazards
- Biohazards – blood-borne pathogens
- Hazards of ionising and non-ionising radiation
- Fire and explosion hazards
- The control of the associated risks, Hierarchy of Controls
- Toxicology – Exposure Limits
- Hazard Communication – Obtaining safety information – SDS
- Conducting laboratory safety inspections/audits
- Personal protective equipment
- Laboratory Equipment
- Dealing with hazardous waste
- Radiation Safety
Training Methodology
This instructor led training is delivered using a blended learning approach and comprises of presentations, guided sessions of practical exercise and group work.
You will have the opportunity to interact with our experienced facilitator who will bring professional and research expertise into their teaching.

Certification
At the conclusion of the course, participants will be assessed by the instructor to confirm that the educational goals have been met by each participant. Each successful participant who completes the course will earn the Bahrain Society of Chemist Certificate of Completion
