Introduction
Knowing how to respond to a first aid or CPR emergency is one of the most important skills a person can possess. This program will help you gain the knowledge, skills, and confidence necessary to manage a medical emergency using CPR, an automated external defibrillator (AED), and first aid until more advanced help is available. It will focus on your essential responsibilities as a first aid provider, including: • Recognizing a medical emergency • Making the decision to help • Identifying hazards and ensuring personal safety • Activating the Emergency Medical Services (EMS) system • Proving supportive, basic, first aid care The program is designed specifically for the occupational first aid provider. This extremely flexible program will help employers meet OSHA and other federal and state regulatory requirements for training employees how to respond and care for medical emergencies at work.
Program Objectives
Upon completion of this Course, the participants should be able to identify emergency situations developing and provide immediate specific first aid measures.
Program Contents
Basic Life Support • CPR & AED for: - Adult - Child - Infant Acting in an Emergency Recovery position Control of bleeding Managing shocks Choking Ongoing assessment Warning signs at serious illness Pain, severe pressure, or discomfort in chest Abdominal pain Significant injuries Moving patients Swollen, painful, deformed limb Emotional impact of providing first aid care
Assessment and Certification
Written examination / Practical examination A pass mark of 70% in the written examination is required for successful completion of the course. Upon completion, the participant will be awarded a First Aid Provider Certificate from the Medic First Aid, which is valid for two years and can be renewed through a refresher course.
